Pre-Team and Little Eagles

  • Little Eagles, Pre-Team, and Swim Team
    • Little Eagles is for our youngest swimmers. Those who are just getting used to the water, getting comfortable moving their arms and learning to swim without use of floaties or other assistance. They will get an introduction to all the strokes with an emphasis on form and learning the “right” way to move their arms.
    • Pre-Team is generally for those who are comfortable in the water, but maybe never had a lot of formal swim instruction and have “graduated” from Little Eagles and are ready to work more on their stroke work and endurance but may not have a full understanding yet of all 4 strokes.
    • Swim Team is the main body of the program, consisting of swimmers who are able to legally swim most, if not all the strokes, and be strong enough to compete in those strokes.
    • As the summer progresses, kids sometimes move up through the groups, finishing in a different place than where they started due to their hard work and practices. Regardless of where your child is placed, ALL are a member of the OFST and may come to the meets to enjoy the atmosphere and cheer on their teammates.
  • How do I know which group my child will be in?
    • All swimmers who cannot complete a full length of the (25 meter) pool, should plan to attend the Pre-Team & Little Eagles evaluations.
    • Ages for these groups vary, and groups are structured based on ability (not age). 6 & unders often place into the Little Eagles Group, while many 6 & over swimmers are placed into the Pre-Team group.
  • Pre-Team & Little Eagles evaluations
    • Evaluations will be posted on the team schedule each year along with a link to the signup genius once available (see Team Schedule).
    • The official start of normal practices start Monday June 2nd. Some more advanced or returning swimmers who attend the evaluations may place into swimming with the full team (Typically this would be those 6 & over swimmers who show they can swim a full length of the pool comfortably enough to benefit from a full practice of full pool swimming).
    • A signup email with next steps and all necessary info to reserve your evaluation date will be sent to all OF families in May. Please contact [email protected] if you have additional questions.
  • Little Eagle group requirements
    • 4 years old by June 1st.
    • Comfortable putting face completely underwater and blowing bubbles.
    • Able to show some forward movement in the water. Swimmers should be able to move forward in shallow water (with or without a kickboard). Occasionally pushing off the bottom of the pool is OK and doggie paddle counts!
    • Comfortable in the pool under supervision of Swim Team Coaches in a group lesson format (without their grown-ups immediately present).
    • Must have completed a coach evaluation prior to the first practice.
    • Advanced/Confident 3 year olds who meet the above requirements may inquire about participating, pending a coaches evaluation.
