Swim Meet 101
Whether your child will be attending a Saturday A meet or a Wednesday B meet this year, there are some things to keep in mind.
- Before the meet
- Declare your child's availability for the meet in SwimTopia by the deadline!
- Parents, volunteer for a job at the meet in the same spot (swim meets are staffed by parent volunteers, and cannot run unless all jobs are filled)
- Monitor emails for info/updates
- Make sure your child does not have any covid symptoms or has not been in any of the following situations:
- Has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days
- A member of your child’s household has tested positive for COVID-19
- Your child has been identified as a close contact of anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19
- At the meet
- Arrive on-time for warm-ups
- Volunteers - find a Swim Team rep to check in to your volunteer job
- Remind your child to remain close to the team area/within ear-shot of coaches so they don't miss important information, call for their event, etc.
- Show your team spirit
Weather Delays & Cancellations
Assume all meets will proceed as scheduled, even if rain/storms are forecasted, as summer storms can be isolated. Decisions regarding delays or cancellations are made poolside by officials and team reps based on local conditions and host pool safety protocols.
Crucial: Please monitor your email and the Swimtopia App announcements for real-time updates and remain at the pool until an official announcement is made. Do not leave the pool area unless instructed by a Team Rep. Often, storms pass and the meet resumes.
After the first B-meet of the season, B meet entry rules will apply.
- Swimmers may swim up to three (3) individual stroke events, as well as the Individual Medley (IM) during Wednesday B-meets.
- If you sign up for four (4) by accident, we will remove you from freestyle so the rule is followed.
- 12 & under IM will be open only to 11-12s. 10 & under may sign up for this event only if they are asked to by a coach.
- If your child was one of the top-two finishers for the Old Farm Swim Team in an event at the prior Saturday A meet, they may not swim that same event at the immediately following B meet.
- For example, if Eddie Eagle places 4th in freestyle at the Saturday A meet overall, but was still the second fastest freestyle time for Old Farm at the meet, then Eddie may not swim the freestyle event at the Wednesday B meet immediately following that A meet performance.
- Since swimmers may only swim a maximum of three individual stroke events at an A meet, there will always be at least one stroke event available for every swimmer to swim at the B meets!!!
- If a swimmer participates in the meet, parents are expected to volunteer at least half of the meet (THANK YOU!).
